I learned English and Spanish simultaneously, from having been raised in the USA with Spanish speaking parents.
My graduate studies are in Translation, Conference Interpreting and Graphic Design, but I started working with languages before receiving my degree. I have been working as a Freelance Translator for nearly eight years, translating and interpreting diverse topics such as medicine, psychology, IT, education, engineering and finance. Contrary to what many people might think, translation complements interpreting as it adds to the memory bank of vocabulary. Last year I founded a start-up of language services called Adverbia (www.adverbia.cl) and it has been a great experience.
In 2014, my first book translation from English to Spanish was published (not by Babel, but a physical publishing house). The book is called "Fritz Perls in Berlin", of Bernd Bocian. It is a historic biography of the life and work of the German psychiatrist and psychotherapist that created Gestalt therapy. I realized, by doing this work, that translating books is one of the fields I most love to work in.
I am an avid reader and the topics that interest me most are psychology, philosophy, science (especially neurology, psychiatry and investigation) education, quantum physics, history novels, biographies and spirituality. I have been practicing yoga for 9 years now and I am also a certified instructor, but I keep the practice to myself. I consider myself to be a permanent, happy student.
I am currently translating my third book, called "Stoicism Today: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living" by Patrick Ussher.
Regards,
Carolina
