If you want something done do it yourself... I have for a long time been frustrated over the lack of brilliant books that have been translated into swedish. There are so many that should be available to more people! Also, when reading translated books myself I find that a lot gets lost in translation. I've lived and worked in England for twelve years, working for University College London. My daughters family lives there, as they come from the south of England, and I still have many friends there. Since moving back to Sweden I have toyed with the idea of translating litterature both from english to swedish and from swedish to english. I am a literacy teacher in both languages and I'm fluent in both as well. I find that living in a different country not only teaches you the language, but you also get a deeper understanding of the nuance and tone of the language that is lost to the person who hasn't "soaked" in the language. I have a passion for good stories, crime, drama and fiction for children of course, being a teacher. Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Angela Carter, Margaret Atwood, Anthony Horowitz, Lewis Carroll, Meg Rosoff, Minette Walters...the list of favourites is very, very long and varied.
