Recently graduated in Languages/Translation (English-Portuguese) from PUC-Rio, I am looking to gain experience and put into practice everything I’ve learned over the years. My passion for English started much earlier—at the age of seven, I began studying the language to have a better understanding of the world. Almost everything I consumed (and still do) was originally in English, from movies and video games to books and more.
I remember catching myself thinking when I saw a translation or dubbing, 'What were they saying in the original version? It can't be that—that's so 'Brazilian.' And that’s what fascinates me about translation: we translate much more than meaning; we translate experiences, creating familiarity and a sense of identity for the audience.It was that feeling that made me want to become a translator and work with audiovisual (subtitles) and literary texts—I want to keep the magic of translation alive for others!
During college, I worked on some literary translations and subtitles, and I loved it! More recently, I’ve been translating subtitles for TED Talks, which has been an amazing experience.
I hope to have a great experience here as well!
