My whole name is Andrea Guadalupe López Herrera, I am a first generation Tijuanense, which means my parents and grandparents were born and raised in a different part of the country. Why do I think this matters? The center of my country is unbelievably rich in culture but not so much in opportunities. Being on the border, right next to a wonderful place named San Diego has done nothing but given to me the best of both worlds. I can firmly say that I not only enjoy, but love the influence of these two cultures in my city. And I think my mother believe it also because the moment I started pronouncing things properly in my own language she enrolled me for English classes. Yes, in plural. Hard work that today I am eternally grateful for.
My native language is Spanish, as you might notice. A form so beautiful of communication that I decide to devote my life to. Currently I am a Communications student, and a fervent art lover, which is what gets me here. When I was around nine years old, my mom used to say to me a lot “Un niño que lee, será un adulto que piensa” which means, a kid who reads will be a grownup who thinks. That got to me again when I was in High School. I was part of the Literary Composition workshop, I won a few internal contests at the time, but that is what led me to see thing differently, see thing my own way.
I want to say I am really excited about this platform. It represents an awesome way of discovering fellow artists/writers and their creations. And at the same time contributing with something I’ve loved all my life: breaking the barriers of language. For me is more than just translating, it’s about building a bridge to share amazing pieces of work so they can reach as many people as possible. That is what matters.
