He hesitated as his finger drew across her lip. His previous conflict returned: honor his commitment or master the magic. But what if the only way to tap into the magic was to break his vow? What if the only way to save his brother was to choose Meghan?

After a long pause, he gently lowered his lips to Meghan’s. He tried to make up for all of the missed kisses—the playa where they reunited, the cloud forest, their months of separation.

She didn’t help quell his yearning with the way her lips brushed against his. Her soft fingers combed through his hair, traced circles around his shoulders, then ran up and down his back.

After some time, he felt something sliding along his waist, up his back, and around his arms. The air filled with a sweet aroma. He slowed the pace, brushing his lips across her forehead and cheeks. He lowered his mouth to her neck, but she paused, placing her finger on his lips.

“Look! I think you tapped into your magic.”

He found himself pressed tightly against her. A winding vine encircled them. Beautiful flowers sprouted from the vine, wild purple twists with splashes of lime green.

“Beautiful,” she whispered. “I cannot believe you magicked all of this.”

“Want to find out what else I can magic?” He wasn’t ready to separate.

Meghan snuggled into his arms. “Seriously, this is mind-blowing. That seed should’ve taken more than a year to fully germinate. Look, there’s even mature fruit!”

“Fruit?” He twisted to get a better glimpse. “What kind of fruit?”

“Passion fruit. Iztali showed it to me this afternoon on our hike. Your seed formed a passionflower vine.”

He groaned at the elf’s sense of humor.
