Stalker
Another long hard day finished. With a deep sigh, Lacy Bevan swept up her backpack and stepped out onto the street. Clouds and smog hung heavy in the air, but at least it wasn’t raining. Glancing up she saw the figure on the roof across the street. Her stalker was still there. Great.
The streets in this part of town were littered with garbage, street people, and others. Lacy spoke to a few of the people as she made her way along, her limp more evident at the end of a day spent on her feet. She’d been volunteering at the food bank long enough to become a familiar face. She genuinely liked a lot of these people, but not all. She’d barely gone half a block when she saw the reflection in a car window. Three men were following her. Sure, even better.
Resigned to the confrontation, and wanting it as far away from her apartment as possible, Lacy stepped into an alley. The men followed. Dropping her backpack to the ground she turned to face them. “What the hell do you losers want?”
The leader swaggered forward. “Shut the fuck up, bitch. You been sending folks away to the clinics, messing with my business. Now you pay the price.”
“Dream on, little boy. Not on your best day.”
“I said shut the fuck up!” He stepped close and pointed a gun at her head, the barrel almost touching her skin. His world went sideways from there in a hurry. Lacy locked her thumbs together and thrust upwards, catching his wrist and forcing the gun into the air. At the same time, she ducked low. The gun fired over her head as her boot connected with his balls, driving him backwards.
