Corrupt senior officers, a murder, a rape and a flasher. Can DI Terry McGuire's day get any worse? McGuire became a police officer to uphold the law and to protect those who cannot protect themselves. When he discovers a connection between a former friend and colleague and a body buried on a beach that appears to have been frozen for five years, McGuire knows there is only one course of action he can take. With a murder, a rape and a flasher adding to McGuire's headache, is there a connection between his colleagues and the awful events unfolding? Can McGuire stand up for what he believes and bring the perpetrators to justice, whoever they may be? "Authors, Arthur Cole and Nigel Williams have nearly fifty years of policing experience between them. If anyone knows what happens behind the closed doors of a police station it's these two." Editor.

PROLOGUE
The lights of a black Ford Transit van cut through the dark, winter air, the old rusty windscreen wipers valiantly battling against the heavy, horizontal rain.
The diesel engine grumbled and the chassis creaked and moaned as it trundled and bounced along a pockmarked lane and pulled to a stop at a secluded corner of an empty car park bordering the beach and the sea.
It wasn’t unusual to see the dark shapes of cars parked there in the early hours of the morning, many rhythmically rocking and bouncing to a beat generated by the occupants, but not tonight. The winter weather had deterred lovers, stargazers and admirers of the ocean. Tonight, the car park was the exclusive domain of the old Ford van.
The rattling engine fell silent. Only the sound of the breaking waves far out in the shallow bay could be heard for several minutes until the occupants were satisfied they were alone.
Three dark-clad figures jumped from the van and opened the rear doors. Two of the shadows pulled a heavy, plastic wrapped package from the cargo hold and lugged it toward the beach, dropping awkwardly off the blacktop hardstanding onto the wet sand three feet below. The third figure held a shovel and remained near the van, keeping watch.
Satisfied the coast was still clear, the third silhouette also dropped down onto the beach and followed the heavy package as it was dragged along the gravel and silt to an outcrop of low, black rocks anchored deep within the fine sand several metres further out towards the incoming sea.
The third shadow began to dig a large hole; seven feet by three feet. It took nearly fifteen minutes before the hole was deep enough to take the heavy, plastic-wrapped package.
