Tortoises on the Via de la Plata by Jacqueline Buchanan

A pilgrimage to Santiago, a journey through life.

Tortoises on the via de la plata

Can a morbidly obese woman with diabetes walk a thousand kilometres?
Can a pudgy fostered child become a trapeze artist?
Can dreams come true?

Walk with me on the longest Camino in Spain, the Via de la Plata. As we journey from Sevilla to Santiago, we'll discover the history and legends and ancient tales of this route. We'll walk through the driest, hottest region. We'll cry tears and face fears and learn to laugh and live and love. We will find ourselves and we will learn that nothing is impossible. And most of all we will learn that dreams can come true.

This book is about a woman who realises her 'impossible' dreams and finds her inner little girl.

My book, an ebook was published in English on May 22nd of this year (2015). I have sold 43 copies.

Although I don't mind any language, I really want to have it translated into Spanish because I have a few Spanish friends who would love to read it and also because Spanish is the language of the Camino.

Thank you

Those of you who have visited the country of my birth will know that I do not exaggerate too much when I say that Scotland is probably the most beautiful country in the world. And if it’s not the most beautiful country, it is definitely right up there.

I know a woman who lives in Scotland. She is married to a very successful travel agent and she has visited more countries than I could ever dream of visiting.

“Which is your favourite country?” I once asked her.

“Scotland,” she replied without hesitation. “And the town I live in is the closest place to heaven on earth.”

Perhaps that’s what was intended. When God painted Scotland, He mixed a palette of the brightest colours, put His brush to the canvas and began to dream of His own little corner of the world.

He painted long, white, sandy beaches fresh from tropical islands, and sparkling forest streams, called burns, from the great rainforests. The burns gave birth to jumping alevins, baby salmon, which swam down rivers, running through the lush green countryside until they reached the timely embrace of the Atlantic Ocean.

God clothed His hills in purple heather and green curling ferns. He bid the cream woolly sheep rise to meet magnificent mountains. He crowned the mountain with golden eagles, soaring through the skies, shaped like Vs. From His birds’ eye view, God added glens, with stately stags standing by lochs inhabited by extravagant monsters and tiny fishing boats with big stories. He painted sophisticated cities, rich in history, inspired by legends and fairy-tale castles.  He was pleased with what He had created and, stroking His brushes with love, about to put them away, He remembered the heavens. He painted glorious lights for the darkest of nights, in purples and greens, such fabulous scenes that the stars were outshone.
