Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706, in the US city of Boston. Raised in a middle-class family, he was the fifteenth child of seventeen and the youngest son in the family.
He was an avid reader from a young age, studying across a wide breadth of subjects, from medical science to the philosophy of Sophocles. Even while working in the family's candle-making business and his brother's printing shop, Franklin would continue to devour any literature that happened to be at hand.
