The Maserati easily ate up the miles along the rural drive.  Abigail glanced down at the surgical mask she had left on her passenger seat, irritated at the need to wear it everywhere she went.  She hated the feel of the mask and how she felt like she couldn’t breathe every time she put it on.  Today, it had been necessary because the private college she attended did not allow renewals for her final semester online, so she’d to go in person with identification to prove she was indeed the person taking the courses.

Abigail glanced at the fences alongside the road, the wild roses twining up through the iron bars which gave an abandoned, overgrown appearance to her home.  She knew her neighbors, with their meticulous lawns and teams of gardeners, would appreciate it if she and her lone gardener took care of the chaos.  She actually loved the wild look and the flowers that grew with abandon.  She slowed down at the front gate and pulled in her driveway.  The lawn needed cutting again, but she loved how long and luxurious the grass looked.  She couldn’t wait to get on the lawn mower and smell the fresh cut grass, knowing she’d have to do it soon or their gardener would beat her to it.  She loved zooming around on the mower and listening to her tunes while she thought about various homework assignments.

She punched the gas pedal to make it around the final curve in the driveway, the strong engine responding to her light touch, only to find a moving truck parked in front of her house.  Panic began to set in until she realized the movers were taking furniture from the truck and not out of the house.

“What the hell?”
