Tom Soles was just an unemployed doorman when he wrote a book that rocked the nation. Entitled ‘Enough is Enough’ it was his commentary on the socioeconomic pitfalls of America. Working folks adored it; the upper echelon hated it. Either way it was viewed, it became a best seller and won him the Nobel Prize for Literature.
When we first meet Tom, he is using an assumed name and all the local townsfolk consider him a hermit. But after a visit from his mail carrier, Jake Snow, we begin to learn more about the man that Jake also had written off as a recluse. Jake has plenty of time and questions, and as he begins to get answers, the two men quickly strike up a close friendship. Then Tom gives Jake an opportunity. He offers to let him read a memoir he’s been working on. Jake accepts, and we begin a story within a story.
What happened between writing that blockbuster book and Tom ending up as a hermit? Jake and the reader are both in for quite a ride! Part mystery, part romance, part drama--"The Last American Martyr" has it all.
Like all seven of my other novels, The Last American Martyr has been an Amazon U.S. bestseller. It has also been on the Barnes and Noble "Top 100". If you go click on the boo's Amazon link (listed below) you can see some of its 140 fabulous reviews.
As for myself, I have been listed as one of Amazon's top 100 "Most Popular Authors" in both Literary Fiction and in Mystery, Thriller and Suspense, and I have also been named by Wattpad (the world’s largest online reading platform) as one of their most followed authors.
I truly believe that The Last American Martyr will have incredible sales in Japan once it is translated into Japenese. The English version is already available on Amazon Japan, and it is presently on 3 bestseller lists. Thank you very much for your interest in translating.
He paused for a sip, and probably to get his next words right. I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear what he was preparing to tell me. I had a wife and two sons. I didn’t want to get involved in anything I shouldn’t. He’d been on the run for a year and a half! From what? What could this possibly be leading to? I had no answers, yet something kept me from bowing out of the conversation. And it continued.
“After all my years on this planet, I’ve become a pretty fair judge of character, Jake. And my instincts tell me you’re a trustworthy person. That’s a rare attribute, nowadays. Plus, you just saved my life. That alone is a damn good reason for feeling a certain affinity towards someone. Anyway…believe me; I never dreamed I’d open up to someone I’ve only known for such a short time. As I said, I’m getting closer to the dirt. It’s very possible that I have far less time left than you might think. I desperately need to share my experiences and my fears, so here goes.”
Tom then turned and nodded at the Times’ article, “You know about the Nobel Prize, am I correct?”
“Well, yes, I saw the picture there and I was inquisitive. Ever since I started delivering your mail, I thought you looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite place you. Of course, I’ve heard about you on the news and all.”
“Are you interested in knowing more?”
“Are you in trouble with the law?”
“No, no,” he said with a slow shake of the head and a melancholic smile, “my problems have nothing to do with breaking laws, only with speaking the truth.”
