Just when Dan, Bruce, and Shen thought they could take some time to unwind and recover from their horrific ordeal with the mutant vampires in the Las Vegas den they destroyed, Bruce has an unexpected run in with werewolves outside his cabin in the hills of Owego, NY and is wounded. Now, instead of searching for vampires they’re searching for a cure for Bruce before the werewolf affliction takes hold of his body permanently. Hearing about a paranormal group in Phoenix AZ that could possibly help them, they wasted no time boarding a plane.The mutant vampire den may have been destroyed, but Dracula’s vampires are still out in full force... and they’re looking for the vampire slayers by orders of Dracula! To add to their peril, they’re forced to partner up with the local vampire leader to help them hunt for Bruce after he morphed into a werewolf and ran off into the desert mountains before a mystical high priestess was able to admister the cure. While roaming the caverns of the Arizona mountains Bruce meets up with Tatyana, a young woman who is running from the vampires. Fortunately for him she’s no stranger to the occult and accpets him in both human and werewolf form. It’s a bonus that she’s able to commincate telepathically! Even though she vows to stay with him no matter what form he’s in, she’s in agreement with everyone that a cure would be the best for all. Would they get it into him in time?

The story took a twist from focusing on killing evil vampires to actually teaming up with them to help Ben find a cure for his werewolf affliction. I loved the way Ben and Tamara hooked up in the cave. Very creative. Eileen kept true to her writing skills and developed the characters and the story line in a believable and likable way. All in all, it was an enjoyable read that made me excited about continuing on with the story in book 3!

“This is a joke, right?” I reiterated. My voice showed my edginess. “This year has been the worst year of my life.” I paced the floor while repeatedly slapping the shaft of my arrow into the palm of my hand. “I’m pretty sure I’ve lost Jennifer, who I was in a relationship for over five years with and thought she was the woman I’d marry. I was held hostage in the den of crazy mutated vampires and got the tar kicked out of my sorry ass in a bogus match with a pompous, egotistical vampire and then... to top it off... I fell in love with a soon to be vampire who we ended up killing when we destroyed that sick cannibal-vampire’s den! My cousin, who is like a brother to me, was turned into a werewolf and now, if I understand you correctly, I’m expected to partner up with this blood sucking son-of-a-bitch, rather than kill him, so that he can earn brownie points with Dracula. Is that right?” When Elsa closed her eyes and nodded, I was so frustrated I couldn’t stop from bellowing, “What’s wrong with this picture?”
I had myself worked up into such frenzy, I thought I might hyperventilate.
Shen stepped forward in an attempt to calm me down.
“No one understands how you feel more than I do, but we should listen to what she has to say before we accept or reject the idea. After all, there do not seem to be many options for us,” he said steadily. “We need her help to fix Bruce.” He turned to Nandru and gave a slight nod of his head. “I am Wu Shen.”
Nandru noticeably relaxed and bowed from the waist in return.
“I am Nandru Dalca,” he said with majestic calmness.
Shen stopped short.
“This is the second time I have heard that name in just a few days,” he said warily.
