The Brighter Snow Falls in the Dark by C.J. Pearson

The New Adventures of Lorewyn & Company, Book 2

The second book in the New Adventures of Lorewyn & Company series.

The brighter snow falls in the dark

Faedrya, the ancestral Faerie realm of Velyxi, Lorewyn’s mother, and her kin who once made Cordysia their home, Lys’elth and Onarys. A beautiful and magical world, largely untouched by mortal fate. But the Celestial Oracle, whose counsel has long guided Faedrya through ages of peace, is now passing beyond time and space and offers its final words of direction for the ancient realm and its inhabitants. A new Arbiter is chosen, and the Oracle has dictated that the Marshall of the North, Nyvendra, is to fill the role. The fallout is nothing like the Faerie folk have ever seen, for no one from her region has ever led the realm, and there is fierce opposition from those who wish to see it remain that way, and strife engulfs Faedrya, even to the point of an assassination attempt on Nyvendra. Lorewyn, Rhianyn, and Blythe arrive only to find a world not in keeping with Lorewyn’s mother’s legacy, but rather a world at risk of being torn apart.

The two of them ran down to the plaza below where there was now a nice layer of snow accumulated on the ground, but the snow was no longer white.  It wasn’t black either.  It seemed to be a mixture of colors, the whole spectrum of the rainbow, a mass assortment of hues, like the light that the Aurora had once cast upon the realm.  Lorewyn rushed up to the dais, Nyvendra with her.  Together they lay in the snow, spreading their arms and moving them up and down, synchronously.  They helped each other up after a moment and looked at where they had lain and moved their arms.

“Snow angels!”  Lorewyn exclaimed.  “With wings, just like my mother had!”

Nyvendra grinned happily and took Lorewyn’s hand.  “Come on, let’s make more!”  They moved over to another part of the dais and repeated their efforts.

Their activity soon caught the attention of others who were passing by in the plaza, admiring the colorful virgin snow with astonishment.  Before long, dozens of Faedryans were in the plaza, making their own snow angels.  There were those from the Southern Expanse, the Western Horizons, the Eastern Steppes, and the Northern Wilds, all four regions.

But when they rose to their feet after making the angels in the snow, they looked around at all the figures throughout the plaza, and no one could tell which region they had come from, or who had made what… for they had all been made with the same bright and diversely-colored snow.
