“Luke, what the hell are you doing here?”

“Please, Shane, don’t do this. You know this is a mistake.”

“Just leave,” he said. “I’m marrying Elaine. That’s just how it is.”

“But our plans. Your promises…”

“Juvenile dreams. That’s all they were. I’m not gay.”

“You’re not gay?” My voice was louder than I had intended it to be. It wasn’t an argument I had expected him to make.

“God damn it, lower your voice,” Shane said in a stage whisper. “Elaine is just down the hallway.”

“Maybe I should go tell her your dirty little secret.”

“You wouldn’t do that.”

We both knew he was right.

I moved up to Shane so we were less than an inch apart. “I love you, Shane. I know you love me.” I pressed my body against his, grabbed his head and pulled him into a kiss. He resisted for half a second before his tongue slid past my lips. I thought I had him, then he pushed me away.

“Fuck, Luke, it’s over. Deal with it. I love Elaine and I do not love you.”

I came forward to kiss him again, but he moved back so I was at arm’s length.
