I'm not sure if I should be relieved or heartbroken that I'm not working tonight. Dmitri didn't order my services, but at least I don't have another client. Still, I can't help but be a little disappointed. Alright, more than a little disappointed.

I was getting used to spending time with Dmitri. Even though we'd only been together for two nights, I felt like we had some sort of connection, as stupid as that sounds.

Of course, we didn't have a connection. Both nights together were awkward. Last night even worse than the night before. It's no wonder he didn't order me again. I probably kept him miserable the entire time. Some escort I am.

“Oh,” I reply, the happiness fading from my voice.

“I would have called you, but you don't have a cell phone. That's something you'll have to remedy when I pay you on Friday.” James stares at the plastic bag I set on his desk. “What's that?”

I shake my head, trying to clear away negative thoughts. “It's the dress you let me borrow.”

He scowls. “What's it doing in there? Don't tell me you messed it up.”

“No. I put it in a bag so that no one on the bus would see it. I was worried someone would try to steal it.”

He laughs. “You're so paranoid.”

“Well, I didn't want to have to pay for it.” I place a hand on my hip.

“Attitude.” He points at me. “That's something you really need to work on.”

“I know.” I deflate.
