“Ain’t that a boy, sitting like Zaccheus in yonder tree?! Look, youngster! Young eyes are better than old. Don’t you see him?!” said Uncle Failings.
“Dear uncle, I see the Juniper trees, but I can’t see any boy,” responded Hudson Failings.
We (the Pequod Posse) were hiding behind a naturally made levee, while the three members had their backs turned to us. They were looking at a patch of Juniper trees on a hill side, making a big deal out of nothing. It was as if a higher power made this job as easy as easy could be.
“He’s a spy-I know he is,” yelled the uncle as he unholstered both six-shooters and unloaded all twelve bullets into a withered white bough that stuck out from the Juniper patch.
After the uncle placed his unloaded guns back into his holsters, he turned around to see what his paranoia made his aging head fear most. His nephew had his hands in the air with Queequeg sticking his rusty old gun in the back of his head. His partner, old Yorpy, also had his hands in the air with Stubb sticking his six-shooter in the back of his head. As for himself, he had two men, Starbuck and I, with rifles aimed directly at his head, while the one legged leader walked slowly toward him with an antagonizing smile and his six-shooter pointed directly at his heart.
Seven Cubits Above Sea Level: Pay Day
The payout was a fair one for me. It was above average when compared to when I was a lone-wolf bounty hunter. Yet the others considered the pay, on this bounty, to be ‘easy pennies.’ Stubb spent all his earnings in one night.
