To reduce sub vocalization in your head, try distracting your subconscious mind. How can you do this? One option is to chew gum as you read. If you chew gum while reading, it can distract your mind from repeating words in your head.
You can also distract yourself by using another voice in your mind. You can also try counting from one up to three as you read. On each line, break it up into one, two, or three sections. As you do this, you should fixate your eyes somewhere at the beginning of a line, in the middle of the same line, then at the end.
As you look at these points, you should count. This will fixate your eyesight on a group of words rather than a single word. This distracts you from saying the words you read in your mind and improves your reading speed (because you will be reading a group of words at a single glance instead of word-by-word). At first, using this method may be confusing, but with practice, it becomes a lot easier.
Another method to try is to look at more than one word at a time then quickly moving on. Start by looking at two or three words at a time then moving down the line looking at the next two or three words.
