Flash reading requires software or an application that will flash words in front of you. The speed at which the words appear is adjustable, so you can read at a regular speed or much faster, if you prefer. You can also adjust how many words appear at once in some programs.
This method of speed reading is somewhat passive because you don’t need to move your eyes or your fingers. You can simply stare at the screen and watch the words as they blink past.
In some cases, the words will scroll by or a highlighter will move left to right across the page. Depending on your preferences, you can choose the program or app that works best for you.
How It Works.
In the beginning, you’ll be looking at one word at a time. Most people are quite comfortable with about 300 words per minute appearing on the screen.
As you become more and more used to the speed, you can increase it. This means words will flash up on the screen faster and faster until you hit the point where you can no longer comprehend them. At this point, you’ll need to find your happy medium, where you can flash the words rapidly, but still understand them.
Gradually, over time, the reader becomes accustomed to the faster speed and it’s possible to continue increasing it, as well as the number of words taken in at once. By the time you move up to three or four words at a time, your mind will be quite accustomed to simply “snap shotting” the words into your head.
