It is an oval or round lidded pot made with porcelain or glazed ceramic. A metal wire surrounds it through which heat can be generated with electrical charges. The lid is generally made of glass and placed on the grooved edge of the pot. Vapor concentrates in the groove and creates a mild atmospheric pressure outside of the pot, which in turn, balances the water vapor pressure created inside the pot. This eliminates the chance of any sudden release of vapor. This pressure balance mechanism makes this cooker different and safer from the regular pressure cooker.
The main cooking area, the pot or the ceramic vessel is designed in such way that it can maintain steady heat. The capacity of the pot may vary from 500 ml (16 oz) to 7 liters (7.4 US quarts). There is a liquid level indicator which is to protect the cooker from uncontrolled heating. The recommended liquid level should be maintained always for safety.
