The business one was a business associate who’s what I refer to as an energy sucker outer. The very presence of an email in my inbox from him was enough to literally suck the life force right out of me and leave me feeling empty for days.
He was forever complaining, moaning, whining, and bothering me with nonsensical crap that had absolutely nothing to do with anything important. A single email from him could easily throw me off for days.
2. The personal one was a little job I’d agreed to take on a few years prior, because no one else at the time wanted to do it, to help out an activity my son was involved in at the time.
What I originally thought, and was led to believe, would be something I could deal with in an hour a week (ever heard that one before?), so I didn’t think it was any big deal when I agreed to it at the time, ended up turning into a twenty to thirty-hour a week unpaid part-time job, filled with all sorts of grief and aggravation, that was now seriously interfering with my business time.
Then, with those two sources clearly identified, I set out to eliminate them.
First, I emailed that particular business associate, essentially telling him that although I’d continue to do business with him, as his attitude wasn’t conducive to a constructive business relationship, I’d no longer be reading and replying to his emails.
Note: There was a bit more to it than that, but that was the gist of it.
I then set a rule in my email program to automatically delete any future emails from him.
That was easy!
