Sample text:

So, the next part that I want to take a look at comes down to the power of negativity once again. One major problem that I have faced in the past is not being able to take responsibility. It ties in with the above quite well, hence why I wanted to bring it up now and let you know what the long-term aim here is: I want to help make sure that, come the end of this book, you feel comfortable taking responsibility. For negative thinkers, taking any kind of responsibility is a very challenging thing to go through with.

Why? Because it means being negative about yourself even more. When you feel like you are always on your own case, it can feel like a relief not taking responsibility. For once, you don’t need to let someone else tell you how awful you are – you are already doing that as it is.

The most powerful transition that you can look to carry out, then, is going to come down to standing up and being counted when it matters most. This isn’t meant that you need to wade in and be the knight in shining armour for the damsel in distress: it means taking your criticism and the challenges in life when they come to you.

If you want to be happier, then you have to be ready to take responsibility for when you fail. I used to look the other way, pretending that it was down to someone else why I had failed. It was never my fault, as I had enough on my plate and I couldn’t cope with the idea of yet more failure. Instead of making me happier as I wrongly thought, I found that this inability to take responsibility meant that I was never learning. So, I was just making the same mistakes over and over, without fail.

I would walk into the same old mistakes, and keep having to avoid any kind of responsibility. It was easier to just pretend that it was down to someone else, and there was nothing that I could do, rather than admitting that I was culpable for the mistakes that I have made.
