This book is part police procedural and part daytime drama and part suspense thriller and just a little bit of a spy-related story. Lots of different pieces that together made for one very, very enjoyable adventure…..
A great plot with some nice twists and turns. The characters were likeable. I think I know. some of these people. I will read more from this author…..
The first of Richard Powell’s Bridge Club series is permanently on my list of favorites. The characters created are exactly like the people next door, only they live secret lives that make them extraordinary. You’ll be guessing, cheering, and laughing right down to the last word….
First book in Bridge Club series. Series has excellent read through
AFGHANISTAN
As the two SUVs raced down the dusty road Fariq’s deputy in the back seat leaned forward. As he spoke the garlic they flavored the roast goat last evening’s aroma nearly canceled out the sour sweat odor radiating from the men’s bodies. “Killing all the teachers and girls except for three is proper. But I fear problems with our men.”
“Why? Punishing blasphemers brings rewards in the Afterlife,” Fariq replied without turning around in his seat. He braced himself against the dash while the SUV bounced on the rugged road traversing the Afghan plain. “The Koran forbids educating women. That means the students and teachers are blasphemers. We will behead one for the video. Remind believers to follow the Holy Law. What problem could there be?”
“Remember? The three to be spared must be virgins.”
Fariq nodded. “That is what they demanded for the information.”
“This will cause problems.”
“I do not understand,” he replied, turning to the back seat. The two seated beside his deputy who had been looking in his direction turned away, pretending no interest.
Fariq scowled. “Surely a close examination will determine this. I do not see the difficulty.”
“To make sure of their purity, will require much unveiling. It has been a long winter. The young ones feel the rush of many desires.”
