Similar to the cognitive-behavioral therapy CBT, the NLP is concerned with cognition and behavior as a method of treatment. Like the CBT, the NLP considers the thought modifications without taking into account the emotions in the same setting. It is useful in a business environment where emotions are less of a concern.
Taking jealousy, for example, the NLP can handle the obsessive thinking that is rootless. However, the NLP is far beyond the deeply emotion-rooted jealousy. Jealousy is either real jealousy that acts as a protective shield in the relationship or severe jealousy that would be deeply rooted. The severe jealousy may be related to concealed feelings of being unlovable, abandoned, inherited, or pushing the partner away. The previous suggestions need the person to face oneself with courage and truth.
Other aspects of limitations of NLP methods are the unfounded hypnosis and failure to deal with life and death issues. First things first, advertising exaggerates the role of hypnosis and accompanied wording process. The commercials focus on the American vision that is oriented with change, excellence, and partial acceptance. Second, the issue of life and death is an emotional subject that the cognitive and behavioral modalities of therapy, e.g., NLP and CBT cannot handle efficiently.
The NLP advantage is the accurate understanding of the minute details of the internal mental processes. The NLP possesses unique techniques and methodology for management of phobias and trauma.
