This book views the role of narcissism in analytic theory beginning with the writings of Freud and examines the conceptual changes that occurred with the development of ego psychology and object relations theory. With this revised edition the author expands his discussion of patients considered to be narcissistic personality disordered in order to discuss the issue of clinical limits.
A narcissist is not an easy task and sometimes ends badly for both parties. I have included some personal stories, many toned down for the sake of the reader and space. But while reading them, keep an open mind, and do not pass judgment. If you are reading this then you probably believe that there is a narcissist in your life.
If you are ready to take action and change your life for the better, this book will definitely guide you in the right direction!

These are all actual utterances from the mouths of narcissists. Some were said directly to me, others to friends. The purpose they serve is to gently remind the receiver of the messages that you are not living life correctly. Not only are you not living it correctly, you’re a disappointment as well. Unlike feedback which is meant to help, these micro-critiques are only meant to have one outcome: a dent in your self-esteem. Dents and dings in your self-esteem make you easier to control, and more likely to stay bonded to the narcissist.
You’re Dating a Narcissist When: Fault is found with almost everything you do and everything that makes you, you. Even kind favors and gestures are subject to scrutiny
You’re Dating a Malignant Narcissist When: They’re totally incapable of receiving the same type of critiques and will blow up at the suggestion they are anything less than perfect
Feels Like: Can’t do anything right, low self-worth, low hope for the future, belief you can’t achieve anything meaningful, fear in sharing dreams or goals with others
True feedback can be a gift; it can help us course-correct and save us valuable time and effort. Micro-critiques, on the other hand, are often unsolicited and numerous, and only serve to make a person feel bad. They can be repetitive and nagging. The narcissist seems to get some sort of pleasure from pointing out your flaws and taking you down a few notches.
