These essays are a wonderful introduction to minimalist living, written by someone with a genuine passion for the topic. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your clutter, or disenchanted with consumerism, you’ll find a kindred soul (and a wealth of advice) in Miss Minimalist.
We live in a world right now that’s extremely obsessed with the surface, with accumulating more and more things, with acquiring new shinies to furnish our nest with, with what I call empty calorie distractions, things that only entertain you momentarily but don’t add any lasting value to your life.
What if I tell you I know a way out? What if I tell you I can teach you not to even set out sailing on that negative course in the first place? What if I tell you that if you have set out sailing in this direction, I can guide you back to shore, to show you what you seek at sea is in fact at home? Will you believe me if I tell you that for those already drowning in an ocean of depression, I have a lifeboat that can rescue them and give them a second chance to throw back punches at life.

Although there are a number of different ways with which you can adopt minimalistic lifestyle, these are some of the tried and tested ones.
Start simple. There is no point in going gung-ho about minimalism one day and going on a spending spree the very next day! Pick up one thing in one day and discard it. If you are the sentimental kind, it’ll be easier to go slow and then pick up speed eventually.
Discarding clutter will give you enough space but giving away something will inspire you to do more of it. Try to give away at least one possession every month. Make sure you don’t give away things you don’t like or things that are broken. Try giving away good quality items that you actually like.
Another idea is filling up a big trash bag. Simply grab a trash bag and try to fill it as soon and as full as possible.
Start by purging the bigger items first. These are the easier ones. First give away the unused microwave or the yet to be opened cake maker.
One of the worst and heart-breaking places to de-clutter is the wardrobe. After spending hours selecting the right clothes to suit every occasion, it is surely an overwhelming experience de-cluttering the wardrobe. Fight the good fight. Divide your wardrobe into two sections – right and left. Now, after each day, place every dress you wear on the right hand section of the wardrobe.
