Many of us have heard of the untold power of the mind. Self-Help Gurus have expounded upon this for a very long time, claiming that if only we could harness our willpower and think positive and happy thoughts, everything in our lives would be perfect. Yet for most of us, as nice as all of this sounds; it’s just not that easy. Why is it so hard for some of us to just let go and think positive? Why does it seem easier for some than for others? In the first moments of birth, our brain receives a steep drop in the “happy chemical” known as serotonin. It has been discovered that this is the apparent cue for the newborn infant’s brain to begin its “neuronal mapping”. In what scientists refer to as literally the “wiring” of the mind, it is in the first few instances of birth that a newborn child’s neuronal circuits,—which are the pathways that will later carry their very thoughts,— are made.
