I have devoted a longer section to this because it’s complex when you first start. Meditation takes place in a place where you won’t be disturbed. You need to be comfortable and the clothing you wear should never be restrictive. Often people make a space devoted to meditation because this needs to become a daily thing. In fact, the more often you do it, the better you get at it.
Meditation is teaching the mind to react in a certain way, but instead of allowing conscious thoughts to come and go as they please, you direct them by letting go. Of course, in the initial stages of meditation, you are going to find that you do have thoughts wander into your mind. It’s bound to happen so don’t think you have failed just because this happens. I will teach you how to let go of those thoughts as we go through the meditation process.
Assuming you don’t do yoga and don’t know complex poses such as the lotus position, it’s better to start your meditation by sitting in a hard chair with your feet flat on the floor. Your back should always be straight for a very good reason. This allows energy to flow through your body. Your strongest hand (i.e. your right hand if you are right handed) should be placed on your lap palm upward with your other hand placed on top of it – similarly palm upward and your thumbs touching.
