Before you decide on what you will be eating, bring yourself to a place of mindfulness. Determine what your body needs. Observe whether your saliva increases as you look at the plate. Do not hurry into choosing one thing.
Concentrate with pure awareness on every movement and every moment of the experience as you move your hand and arm, and your fingers towards the items, and pick it up. Hold the object between your fingers or on the palm of your hand.
Imagine you have just landed on Earth, and have never encountered that substance before. Examine it with all your senses as if you have never laid your eyes on it before. Explore it; scan through every part with your eyes as it lays in your fingers or on your palm. Flip it around.
4) Observe the texture; its shape; the light on it; whether it is smooth, coarse, hard, or soft. Observe any thoughts that cross your mind, and see if you can simply acknowledge them and let them pass… and then bring your awareness back to the object at hand.
Take the object to your nose and observe carefully how it smells like. Bring it to your ear and roll it, squeeze it, and listen for any sound that comes from it.
Start to gradually bring the substance to your mouth, realizing that your arm knows exactly where to move, and maybe realizing your mouth watering. Place the object gently into your mouth, or take a bite if it is too large, but don’t chew it yet.
