When we are relaxed, so is our breathing. There is a natural breathing pattern that simply happens on its own. So the first step here is to simply relax and breathe naturally. You can do this by settling into your surroundings because you set it up according to your liking.

Let your breathing just happen for about five minutes or so. The duration is easy to manage, just estimate the passage of time. There is no need for timers and the like. Your eyes can be open or closed as you please.

You will feel a sense relaxation head to toe.

If you cannot relax , try this:

Gradually tense (not to a burn or a cramp) your toes and release. Do the same for your feet, toes attempting to touch your shin bones (they won’t touch, but you get the idea) and release. Tense each muscle group separately and release as you please all the way to the top of your head. There is no right or wrong way. This is a general technique.

At some point of your effort, your body will relax and ease itself, right along with your mind.

It is very important not to fall asleep. If you do, you will have to start all over again another time. The reason for this is that when the body is ready for sleep, it will take its chance. Fighting the tendency to sleep is simply unproductive and gives less than desired results with this method.
