Sample text:

This technique can be done anywhere and anytime. As a beginner it's wise to start somewhere with little distractions. Simply, go somewhere like a park or by a stream where there's only a few noises around you. If you choose a park then stand or sit and start to listen to all of the sounds around you. Don't focus on any particular sound. The main thing is to remain unfocused and listen to all of the sounds simultaneously. A word of warning, you'll start to feel blissful, calm and relaxed. How dare you! Who do you think you are enjoying each moment and being conscious. Society won't approve!

The trick is to remain unfocused in your listening. If you listen to one sound in particular to the exclusion of all others then you're focused and that's not the technique. I found that as time went by that I could do this meditation technique even if I was somewhere chaotic. This meditation technique works best when you meditate somewhere fairly quiet in the beginning. Build up to meditating in more noisy places. This will prevent you from giving up. In other words, if you're a beginner you wouldn't try meditating doing unfocused awareness at your local shopping centre.

The beauty about this meditation technique is that you don't need to go into a dark room, sit cross legged and shut the world out. It's kind of the opposite to doing that. It doesn't exclude anything. You can eventually meditate while you're driving your car and actually you'll be a better driver. You'll be calm, awake and aware while you're driving. You're not driving unconsciously, you're absolutely present, you're consciousness - you're not getting to the end of you're car trip and having very little rememberance of the journey.
