Book 2 in The Liliana Series

Prologue

Our wedding night had been a whirlwind of noise and celebration, and I awoke early the morning after, with a headache. Sunlight beamed in through the white lace curtains. Antonio was not beside me and the sheets were thrown to the side where he had been sleeping. I wondered if he was in the bathroom but after five minutes or so I realized that the bathroom door was open and there were no noises coming from inside.

I was completely naked but lay there without moving until I saw a white silk robe on a chair nearby. I put it on and luckily I did, because moments later the door opened. The maid came in slowly with a tray of breakfast, glancing around the room as she did. As our eyes met, she quickly left and I began to eat.

Elena came in shortly after. “Are you okay?” She asked, smiling at me coyly.

I rubbed my body and nodded.

“I can’t believe that you let my mother do that.” She motioned to the balcony and I walked over to it seeing a sheet flailing around in the wind with blood spots on it.

I quickly took it down and rolled it up in a ball, throwing it in the garbage can in disgust.

“Oh no.” I exclaimed, holding my hand to my face. “How embarrassing! I didn’t realize that happened.”

“You didn’t know that she did that?” Elena asked.

I shook my head. I sat down and continued to eat my food slowly, without saying a word. What was I supposed to say? Whatever was done was done.

“Where is he?” I asked, I finally asked her.

“Where else?” Elena responded. “At a meeting, where else?”
