Here there be griffins

When 12-year-old Molybdenum McTavish finds a griffon’s egg in her grampa’s towing yard she is thrown into a whirlwind adventure that takes her beyond the north wind and off her own map. Moly must find out who she is and who she can trust before the last of the griffons is brutally murdered and the people of Hyperborea made slaves. Can a girl and her newly-hatched Tiger griffon take down a horde of one-eyed Arim before it’s too late?

Sample text:

At the Piece o’ Junk Towing Yard you can find anything – even a clumsy girl with a bunch of acronyms behind her name. Molybdenum ‘Moly’ McTavish, ADHD, SPD, DCD, and a little OCD – the works! The dingle-dangle of hollow, brass bells rattling on the door handle was enough to startle the jumpy girl and send her tumbling headfirst into a stack of tires. A balding man with a sour face stepped through and up to the front counter. He gripped the edge of the counter and scowled.

“Hi. Is there anyone else here besides you?” he asked. Moly scrambled back to her feet pretending to have dropped a pen.

“Nope,” Moly answered, feeling her cheeks flush and hoping he hadn’t seen her fall. She hated it when people assumed she wouldn’t know anything because she was young and a girl. “Can I help you? I mean-” she corrected, “I can help you. What do you want?”

“Excuse me? Who taught you how to speak to customers? Rude!”

“Huh? I’m not rude! You are!” Moly stood up behind the counter knocking her stool over again. The back-room door flung open and Moly’s grandpa blasted through.

“Moly, Moly, Moly!” He gripped her shoulders and held her fast as she tried to wiggle free of his grasp. He turned Moly’s shoulders and gave her a gentle shove toward the back door. “Wait outside, hunny,” he whispered through gritted teeth.

“I am sorry about that, sir!” said Zedekiah McTavish, Moly’s grandpa.

“What’s wrong with that kid?” The man was fuming and about to explode.

“My granddaughter has plenty of skills, but people-skills ain’t one of ‘em."
