This is such an obvious habit however the obvious ones are sometimes the ones that need to be pointed out again and again. In the last half century television has become an integral part of the family home. The modern living room is always set up so that the focus is directed towards the television. Changing this habit when it is built into our culture is a challenge.
Most people watch one, two or three hours of television a day yet most of us complain about not having enough time. Let’s be conservative and say we watch an hour a day of television. That is thirty hours a month or an entire day a month watching television. Over the course of a year that's two weeks.
It's not that we shouldn't be watching it at all and that we shouldn't be doing things that we enjoy. We don't have try and be super productive twenty four hours a day. As John Lennon said "Time enjoyed wasting, is not wasted”. The thing with television as well as phones and computers is that they become the default to alleviate boredom. We have nothing to do so we sit down and see what’s on. If we have a television sitting right there it is so easy to just switch it on and those hours add up.
