She's lived in the darkness long enough.
Danica has lived her life in the shadows. Her family ran away from the dragon realm to keep her safe, but now she's all grown up and able to protect herself. One of only four females able to mate, she's both precious to their world and in danger from those who would use her for their own advantage.
Erik, Damon, Castien and Benjamin survive in the human world by running into burning buildings and feeding from the flames. As firefighters, they've got the perfect cover. It isn't perfect, but they had to leave their dying realm behind. They're content with their lives, until they see her. A woman who calls to not one, but all four of them.
The Dragon King will stop at nothing to ensure his bloodline is secure, even if it means kidnapping and forcing himself on Danica as well as the other remaining female dragons. Tired of living in the shadows, Danica steps into the light only to be faced with a terrible truth and dangerous consequences.

She got her first job, an apartment, and turned twenty-five before she ever encountered a male dragon that she wasn’t related to. She was grown, her powers fully manifested, and the last of the witch's spell had faded away in the night. Barely a week later that she saw him.
Admittedly, getting a job in a fire department might have created the problem for her. She wasn't going to tell anyone that it was her fault, though. Instead, she had requested a different fire house as her assignment and had left before he had ever even saw her. Not giving him the chance to recognize her for what she was. It wasn't until she called her mom to tell her what had happened that she realized she might have made a mistake.
"Mom," she said into the smartphone, surprised when she wasn’t staring directly at her mom’s forehead.
"Dani!" Her mother squealed at seeing her face. "How's the new job? Is the fire department as good as you thought it would be?" She looked happy, and Danica felt bad that she was going to cause her mom stress. But she needed to tell her.
"I requested a transfer," she said without preamble and watched as shock and disappointment filled her mother's eyes.
"Why, precious? Was it a bad house?" Her parents had researched fire departments, watching season after season of any tv series that were based on firefighters. Now, they both thought they were experts on the subject.
Dani couldn't help laughing at that thought before she remembered why she was leaving.
"No, mama. I saw a male." She was hoping that her mother would understand what she was saying.
"Well, it's a firehouse. There are men everywhere, dear." She waved a hand over the phone's screen. "Why would that matter?"
"I saw a male," she tried once more with emphasis.
