His expression darkened even more at her reaction, brows furrowing with frustration.
For a moment they stared at each other. Then he sighed and attempted an apologetic smile.
The hand holding her arm loosened and he brought his free hand up to stroke the curve of her cheek before tucking the hair back behind her ear as he’d done before. But this time his hand moved immediately down to cup her chin and he ran his thumb across her lower lip. The sensation instantly re-ignited every nerve in her body and nearly dragged a moan out of her.
“I’m sorry,” he offered gently. “It’s been a long time since someone has made me feel the way you do. It’s…difficult, for me to remember that I have no right to expect the same response from you.”
