The most important thing that you as a trainer should develop is a calm and assertive energy. Dogs and puppies alike respond well to people who are calm and assertive because this is how dogs teach each other in the wild.
Before interacting with your puppy, make sure you leave all your stressful energy behind. Close your eyes, and then sit or stand in a comfortable position, and breathe in and out deeply at least ten times before handling your puppy. This shouldn’t take long and you’ll immediately feel a change in your outward energy.
Never handle a dog or puppy if you are stressed out and always keep your emotions in check when you’re training them. Any change in your over-all emotional state will quickly be reflected back to you by your dog because they are very sensitive to these energy fields.
You will also need to practice a lot of patience during every training session. If you feel that you are slipping, simply do the breathing exercise again and you should feel better immediately.
