A piercing scream echoed around the valley and Jessica came hammering over the rock and down the valley side, slipping, sliding on the scree, half running, half falling, desperately trying to keep her feet under her. The Kraal turned to face her and fired off a dart but Jessica was moving much too fast. She landed with a thump, two-footed, right in front of the Kraal and even as her feet touched the floor she loosed off an arrow that took the Kraal hard in the chest. Jessica dived full length behind a boulder and a laser-dart blasted a great slice of it away. She had about four seconds for the gun to recharge from the battery on the Kraal's belt and she was on her feet loosing off another arrow and diving for the next piece of cover.
Now Tom was left with no option. The Kraal would keep blasting away at the rocks covering Jessica, smashing them to dust, until it got through to her. She was still screaming, a scream of pure fury, no one hated the Kraal like Jessica did! Tom was running now, panting, hurling his body towards the Kraal, the crossbow in his hands. It was too far ... too far! The Kraal was turning to face him, the laser-dart was already levelled and he was finished. Jessica came over the rock again screaming her head off, ducking under the Kraal's arm, making it flinch in its aim. The laser-dart went wild and she did a forward roll right into the open and stood facing the Kraal, inviting it to fire. Four seconds to finish!
