Just the other day, I was talking with my wife about a check we were expected to receive soon. As soon as she began to think of the many ways she could spend the money, she started rubbing her palms together. You don't even have to be a body language to read this one properly—her palms rubbing together indicated she was anticipating the money and had positive expectations.
What most people don't know is that the speed of the palms rubbing together are a telling sign of who the person rubbing their palms together thinks is going to benefit from the positive expectations they have. Let's look at a real-life example.
In example one, you're at a used car dealership looking to purchase a vehicle. You've found a truck you really like and are talking to the salesman, who is telling you what a great deal the truck is. He rubs his palms together quickly right before he tries to close the sale. What does this mean? The quick palm rub indicates he has positive expectations for you. A slow, methodical palm rub, on the other hand, indicates the salesman has positive expectations for himself, possibly because he's been offered a big commission to unload this lemon.
You've been offered the car and the palm rub was quick, so do you close the deal and buy the car? Not so fast—salesmen are trained to keep their palm rubs quick in order to show the buyers they have positive expectations. On the other hand, if you have a salesman who is slowly rubbing his hands together, you may want to watch closely for other signs he's up to something devious.
On the other side of things, buyers who are looking to buy something will rub their palms together to indicate they have positive expectations.
