Our productivity is among the many things that suffer whenever we allow anxiety to set in. In cases of mild anxiety, it is not much of a problem since it can be easily overcome. However, if the anxiety is much more severe, we end up spending more time each day to dwell on our negative thoughts. This results in our workload for the day being only partially finished, and so when closing time comes, we end up having to deal with—and worry about—more things than there were before.
Do not despair, though, for you can actually overcome otherwise debilitating anxiety as you strive to finish all your important tasks for the day. Here’s how you can accomplish that:
Being in constant contact with coworkers (and clients, in some cases) can help eliminate any doubts you may have as to the progress of your assigned tasks. Specifically, constant communication with others allows you to see if you are meeting the targets set by the management as well as those you have set for yourself. It also leaves no room for nasty surprises that could leave you feeling anxious, like an urgent email from the boss that had been left unread for days.
When you feel like asking your coworkers for help because the work seems too much for you or you don’t know how to proceed, don’t hesitate to do so. Don’t be a hero trying—and failing—to do everything on your own. You belong to a team anyway. Ask others to take some of the load of your shoulders, but remember to return the favor when the time comes that they will ask you for help.
