Sample text:

Commissioner Arvidsson was on the phone when I entered his office. He listened for a long time without saying a word until he was finally given the opportunity to speak.

“That’s correct. As I mentioned, we have something in the works.”

It was only after he’d hung up that he realized he wasn’t alone.

“That was the woman managing our press contacts. Tomorrow, the newspaper will be publishing an article about our poor results. I hinted to her that we’re about to solve an old missing-person’s case. It’s a good thing you came in actually. It’s time to put the squeeze on Ernst Skedblad. Surely, he’s had enough time to think over his situation by now.”

It wasn’t a great start. I’d been hoping to begin our conversation by reporting on Sven Frisk.

“I’ve released Skedblad. There wasn’t enough evidence to hold him.”

The commissioner suddenly stood up, nearly toppling his desk chair.

“What have you done! Have you let the long-haired murderer get away?”

Long-haired I could agree with, but murderer? The commissioner’s expectations had probably been too high.

“The evidence is pointing in another direction.”

Unfortunately, this news wasn’t enough to calm Arvidsson down.

“I know what the evidence is pointing to. A hole in the ground from which we’ve just dug up a young nanny. It’s also pointing to the thug who seduced her there and then killed her after getting what he wanted.”

I understood Arvidsson’s frustration. He’d recently been forced to release three scammers from the automobile industry. And now he’d been hoping for a successful outcome to leak to the papers. But I had something even better.
