I am mainly interested in political history and political philosophy. My latest work, La souveraineté dans tous ses états, deals with the concept of sovereignty, as it is comprehended – as well as miscomprehended – by the Quebec sovereignty movement. So far I had no success whatsoever at selling it, although my PhD supervisor has recently told me the book is a real bomb, and it could eventually have a considerable success if only I managed to reach a few influential people, like political journalists, politicians, university professors, etc. The only thing is I am very bad at marketing my book, and I am not so sure the French Canadian public, to which this book was first addressed, is very willing – at least at first glance -- to hear more about the idea of sovereignty, even though the book is a lot more about the concept itself than about its actual application by the Quebec separatist movement. Since the idea of sovereignty is traditionally associated, in Quebec, with the idea of separation, and since the separation movement is dying, Quebecers probably do not see the interest of learning more about something they want to forget about, even though the independence movement is just a pretext, in my book, to talk about the idea of sovereignty in general, something which is certainly not outdated, as we can see in Europe. However, the English speaking public, though also tired of hearing about the Quebec separatist movement, might be better disposed to hear about the concept of sovereignty, especially when it helps showing how much the so called sovereigntists leaders do not know much about what they have been talking about for the last 50 years or so.
Now since I am French Canadian I need someone to translate my book into English.
Regards,
Eric Labbé
