I have always found language, in whatever form, highly engrossing. I am a stickler for detail, accuracy, and form. I am unusually sensitive to different formulations and I enjoy working through different ways to translate things in my head. When watching movies and TV shows, I always go back to catch that interesting bit of language use, and even switch between subtitle languages to see how it was translated. And I can spend hours reading books that come in a multilingual edition. All of this is second nature to me, and I would love to put that kind of talent where the money is.
I hold a B.A. in International Relations and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from a Chinese-taught program at Dalian University of Technology. I started working with translation in 2013, when I co-founded a translation agency that specialized in Mandarin Chinese. I have had experience with CAT tools including YiCat and Trados. I have translated books, news articles, official speeches, and other types of text mostly in English, Chinese, and Portuguese. I am also proficient in German and fluent in Russian and Italian, and I would love to translate from these languages as well.
Besides translation, I am also a teacher by vocation, having taught Chinese, English, German, Italian and Portuguese. I am currently employed as a Quality Assurance Analyst for the Chinese mobile games market. This is a role that requires great attention to detail and involves, amongst other duties, localization quality assurance, i.e. proofreading existing translations. As for hobbies, I enjoy reading, hiking, and photography.
