I am an author of 12 books and a teacher at the Language Institute of Thammasat University. My first novel, "The Scribe" was a comedy of the Bangkok nightlife, published by DK Books in 2000. The follow up, "Thaialnd Joy" came out in 2003. With the decline of DK Books, I turned to self-publishing and released a number of books over the next two decades. While my audience has remained niche, reviews have been good and I believe I've attained somewhat of a cult status here in Thailand.
Inspiration for my latest novel came from the ghost stories that I’ve loved ever since my arrival in the Kingdom. The ghost I chose to write about is one that remains popular in TV series and movies and known all over Southeast Asia. It is the krasue, a woman’s flying head and entrails that flies through the night searching for food. My novel, “Filthy Appetites” is a comedic take on the tale told from a number of perspectives including the creature’s caretaker, a down-on-his-luck magician, the host of a ghost hunting TV show, and the creature herself.
“Filthy Appetites” was published by Silkworm Press in 2023. While it has received positive reviews, sales have been poor. I believe that a solid translation will give the book the push it needs to capture the interest of a wider audience.
