Toby's Triplets by Jennifer Freedman

Fun, Mischief and Mayhem

What if the forest guarded a secret only brave pups dared to discover?

Toby's triplets

When Kanika surprises her family with three tiny puppies, Toby steps proudly into his biggest role yet: Dad. From the cozy laundry room to the whispering trees beyond the meadow, the triplets grow into bold explorers with curious noses and unstoppable courage.

But when a mysterious spiral and a strange wooden chest appear deep in the woods, adventure calls louder than ever. Raven leads the charge, Skye trusts her instincts and Tokala races to keep up as the pups slip farther into the forest, spirals multiplying along the path and pulling them toward a hidden truth.

Now Toby must navigate twisting paths and ancient mysteries to bring his pups home. Filled with warmth, disorder and wagging tails, Toby's Triplets: Fun, Mischief and Mayhem – the third book in the "Toby's Adventures: Journeys of a Lifetime" series – celebrates family, bravery and the power of young voices – especially when the smallest adventurers dare to take the lead.

What magic – or danger – stirs in the shifting shadows beyond the trees?
How far will a father go to protect what he loves most?
What truths will the pups uncover about strength, teamwork and the bond they share?

THE LATE AFTERNOON SUN spilled through the living room windows, painting the rug in soft amber light. Outside, the garden was hushed, the air heavy with the promise of evening rain. Inside, everything felt still, as if the house itself was holding its breath and waiting – the way you do when something wonderful is about to happen. I felt it, too.

Mom stood by the couch, folding a fleece blanket that had become Kanika’s favorite these past few weeks. It smelled faintly of lavender from the wash, and Mom smoothed the edges with care, her thoughts elsewhere. Evan came in from the kitchen, his steps slow, deliberate. Behind him, Kanika padded along, her belly swaying gently with each step. She moved like someone carrying a secret – and in a way, she was.

“She’s really starting to look ready,” Evan said tenderly, crouching to stroke Kanika’s head. Her short, jet-black fur was warm beneath his hand, and she leaned into the touch with a tired sigh. He guided her toward the rug by the coffee table, where she circled twice before settling down, her body curling protectively around the life inside her. The quiet rhythm of her breathing filled the room like a gentle promise.

Evan glanced toward the doorway and frowned slightly. “I’m surprised Toby isn’t in here with her. He’s barely let Kani out of his sight since the day we brought her home.”

Mom nodded, her voice thoughtful. “That’s true. He follows her everywhere now. I wonder what’s keeping him – maybe he’s checking the barn again? Well, he can’t be far behind, don’t worry.”
