Three Years Ago
“Elle are you sure you’re ready?” Liam her operational controller looked at his field agent using Michelle’s cover name. She was dressed in a smart cocktail dress, her natural blonde hair died almost jet black for the mission, and her cover. She was Elle, short for Elektra, a cheesy name, running an escort agency named after her. A high-end escort agency that wanted more girls. Elle was an easy shortening of her real name. They were in a seedy coffee shop two hundred yards from the club.
“Yes, Liam don’t fuss,” she was relaxed. It was not the first meeting with Andris. He was their prime lead into a trafficking ring which they were concerned was linked to Islamic State’s attempts to smuggle their fighters into Europe. For MI6 the main concern was the risk to the UK. The last meeting, arranging this London one, had been in Athens three weeks earlier. Before that there had been initial meetings on the Greek Island of Kos. A six month undercover operation in the Greek Islands finally had a direct UK connection. The nightclub location had only been confirmed an hour ago by a text message.
The tenuous links from several initially unconnected sources had led Liam to believe there was a possible terrorism link. Links from ground sources established in the refugee camps in Turkey. Links supported from electronic intercepts and name searches. Links from Turkey and then into the Greek Islands. Finally an active mission with an agent, Michelle, deployed into the field.
“Cover from Ken and Geoff is in place, thank God we managed to get them inside in time. I’m still not happy about not having audio on you,” Liam was watching her closely. “We have two more outside from Team Four if they’re needed and I’ll be in the monitoring van.”
