A Reef in time: Waypoints of a Most Unusual Sailor is the memoir of a man who, somewhat past the age of 30 and on the brink of a rewarding career, decided a good job and comfortable future just wasn't enough. So he went to sea-which in itself isn't unusual. Considering, however, that Stuart Reininger's background and previous choices in life, becoming a sailor, much less a professional sailor, would seem to be the last thing he would do-or at the least, another unfortunate choice. And he did make bad choices in his new career, some almost fatal. But, possibly because he was so "clueless," to survive he needed to "think out of the box." His memoir details how he approached situations and emergencies offshore (and in his life) in unprecedented ways. It worked, as Reininger combined a love and respect for the sea and a passion for sailing that allowed him to reach the top ranks of his profession.
